Casual Drinks vs Gameday Drinks

Whether it’s a weekday night out with friends or a full-blown weekend gameday, alcohol is always the main character. But the way we drink? Completely different sport.

On a random “school night,” the group chat with the name you can’t say out loud is buzzin' about happy hour. The debate begins: rooftop with a view, waterfront vibes, or the dive bar we all pretend we don’t love but absolutely do. Each option comes with its own menu—and personality. Rooftop means martinis and overpriced cocktails that are easy on the eyes and destined for Instagram. Waterfront spots bring out the colorful, beachy drinks with umbrellas and fruit garnishes. Dive bars? You know what you’re getting. No frills. No judgment.

By definition, casual drinks are typically consumed in moderation, in a relaxed setting, with an emphasis on conversation and atmosphere, but this is only if you want to be an adult AND act like one.

Elite casual drink settings (no particular order—feel free to rank):

  • A New York City rooftop

  • A beach chair in Miami

  • A beer garden or brewery

  • An old, smoky bar (bonus points for a pool table and darts)

  • Around a campfire

UNO reverse.

It’s gameday. Everybody lock in.

Now both the guys’ and girls’ group chats are firing on all cylinders. Where are we meeting? Who’s bringing what? Who’s driving—and who absolutely is not? This isn’t about aesthetics or even flavor anymore. The biggest difference isn’t how the drinks look—it’s how many of them there are.

We want volume.

Coolers packed with the exact same beer. Trays on trays of Jell-O shots. Buckets. More buckets. Variety is unnecessary; abundance is essential. Efficiency over elegance.

By definition, gameday drinks are tied to sporting events, concerts, or any festivity built to last all day—and then some.

Best gameday drinking settings (also not in order, but please rank):

  • Any tailgate (college ones especially)

  • A sports bar, big or small

  • Your friend’s watch party

  • Celebrating after the game (location: anywhere)

No penalties here—everyone’s running the same playbook. Home team advantage.
